CirculationFaculty, staff, students are welcome to use the resources of the AUCA Library. They may charge out material for home or office use. Most library material circulates; notable exceptions include reference materials, and periodicals. Periodicals, video and audio materials are loaned only for AUCA faculty for the period of 2 days with an opportunity to prolong the loan period only up twice. Either Library Card must be presented at the circulation counter to charge out material. A borrower is financially responsible for all material charged out on their Library Borrowers Card. In case of loss or damage of item a patron is obliged to replace to the library the same item or to change it by another one, which is considered by library as the equal. In refusal of patron to restore the lost item, the library has a right to claim the cost of an item up to fivefold of the cost. The Libraries provide circulation services 52 weeks per year. Borrowers must abide by Library Circulation Policy even when they are away from campus for vacation, research, sabbatical, etc. In these situations borrowers must either return library materials before leaving campus or make arrangements for a responsible party to attend to their library business. Loan PeriodsBasic textbooks that are available in the sufficient amount are loaned for 1 semester not more than: 12 items | - for full time students | 8 items | - for part time students and students from preparatory | 2 items | - for AUCA Alumni | 20 items | - for AUCA full time faculty | 10 items | - for AUCA part time faculty | 5 items | - for AUCA staff |
Reference literature, literature in a single exemplar and literature from "Core Collection" is loaned for the period from 1 to 3 days. Patron has an opportunity to prolong the loan period by phone if the literature is not in demand among other patrons but only up twice. Students, faculty and staff may borrow dictionaries for use only in reading rooms. In exceptional cases these editions can be loaned to patrons for the night after 20.00. In that case these editions should be handed in not later then 9.30 next morning: During semesters for short periods of time (e.g., overnight, over a weekend), when approved by a librarian. Loan times are decided on a case-by-case basis, depending on anticipated demand for that specific book. During breaks, between semesters. Normally, they can be taken the last day of classes or finals and will be due back the day classes resume. Renewing Materials
Most material can be renewed unless needed by another borrower. Renewals may be made: In person By phone (312) 66-10-88
For renewal, the borrower must provide both their library card number and should indicate that they want all eligible material renewed or should list the titles of the selected materials they wish to renew.
Overdue and Recall Fines
Borrowers are responsible for renewing or returning material on or before its due date. Materials that have reached their renewal limit must be returned on or before their due date. All material is subject to recall if needed by another borrower. Recalled material that is not returned by the recall due date is subject to a 50 som fine. When an item is recalled, a recall notice is sent to the borrower indicating the new "recall" due date. Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy, failing to receive an overdue notice does not absolve a borrower from responsibility should they receive a bill or fine. Library users are responsible for maintaining accurate address information with the University. For normal loans an overdue notice is sent seven days past the due date and again 30 days past the due date. Overdue intervals vary for recalls, and other special loans.
